Why Convert HEIC to PNG?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default since iOS 11 — about 50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality because it uses HEVC compression. The problem is compatibility: Windows Photos without the extension, older Android, many WordPress and marketplace uploaders, and most design handoff tools still expect PNG or JPG. If you search .heic to png, you usually have an iPhone photo that won't open on a PC, a screenshot that looks blurry after conversion, or a CMS that rejects HEIC. PNG solves that — it opens almost everywhere, keeps sharp edges for text and UI, and preserves transparency-free quality for receipts, product images and documentation. The trade-off is file size: a PNG is often 2 to 5 times larger than the original HEIC because PNG is lossless and built for editing, not for maximum compression. That's normal. If your goal is the smallest file for email or social media, convert HEIC to JPG at 90 percent quality instead. If your goal is editing, archiving, design, or a pixel-perfect screenshot, PNG is the right choice.
